Before Apple, Meta introduces the Quest 3 VR headset

Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, announced the Quest 3, his company's most recent virtual and mixed reality headgear, on social media on Thursday, ahead of rival Apple's anticipated debut of a comparable product next week.

In a video posted on Instagram, Zuckerberg demonstrated the upcoming Quest 3 game.

According to Meta, the most recent headset has a greater resolution, better Meta Reality performance, and a thinner, more comfortable form factor than the prior model. The newest gadget will be 40% thinner than the Quest 2 model from before.

The company announced that the most recent headset will include a Snapdragon chipset created in partnership with Qualcomm for the highest definition display. According to the manufacturer, the Quest 3's graphical performance will be double that of the Quest 2 thanks to the new processor.

The 128-gigabyte Quest 3 headset will cost you $499.99, and there will be a storage upgrade option, according to the tech giant.

Meta's Reality Labs division, which is in charge of creating VR and AR technologies, reported an operational loss of $3.99 billion despite earning $339 million in the first quarter of this year.

The company noted that more information about the product will be revealed on September 27 at its Connect conference.

The launch of Meta coincides with the introduction of VR headsets by other major global technology companies.

At the company's Worldwide Developer Conference the following week, Apple is anticipated to unveil its VR headset. The headset will reportedly cost at least $3,000 and presumably include AR technology.

With the goal of "transforming" future human interaction, Samsung Electronics, Qualcomm, and Google also established a trilateral alliance in February to create a next-generation extended reality environment.
